Dental Implants FAQs

Dental Implants FAQs dental implants FAQs

If you are considering getting one or more dental implants in Corpus Christi, you probably have a few questions about the procedure and what you can expect from it. We have found that many patients have similar questions and concerns when making the decision to get dental implants. This is why we’ve created these dental implants FAQs, to help you better understand this procedure and how it might benefit you.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the most natural looking and feeling option for replacing missing teeth. An implant is made up of two pieces – the implant itself, which is a titanium post or screw, and the prosthetic tooth (crown) that is installed over it once it has healed. After the crown has been created, fitted, and installed, the dental implant will look and function just like any other normal, healthy tooth.

Is Implant Dentistry Painful?

This is by far the most common of the dental implants FAQs we hear from our patients. We are happy to say, no, implant dentistry is not painful. The procedure is normally done under local anesthesia, so you will not feel anything while the implant is being placed. After the anesthesia wears off, you may experience some discomfort, but this is easily treated and typically fades quickly.

What Can I Eat After Getting Dental Implants?

After the initial procedure to place the implant in the jaw, you should avoid exposing the site of the surgery to germs and bacteria as much as possible. In general, avoid chewing with the affected side of your mouth until the implant has had a chance to heal.

In the first few days, especially, soft foods are a good idea, as well. However, once the implant has healed and the permanent crown has been fitted, you will be able to eat anything you like without fear of damage to the crown or the implant.
