Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
If you are not happy with the alignment of your teeth, you may be weighing the pros and cons of traditional braces. While you know that orthodontics will eventually straighten your smile, you also know that you do not want to spend a few months or years with a mouthful of metal braces. Fortunately, there is an alternative for those with mildly to moderately misaligned teeth. If you are a candidate for Invisalign, you could enjoy a more beautiful smile without the telltale metal brackets.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a system of clear aligners (sometimes called clear braces) that are custom made to fit your teeth. The first aligners will be very close to the shape of your teeth as they are now, and each set is progressively straighter and more aligned. You will generally wear each set for about two weeks, and you will want to avoid taking your aligners out for more than two hours per day. Essentially, you will only want to take them out to eat or drink beverages other than water. Then you will brush your teeth and replace your aligners.
Do You Have Basically Healthy Teeth and Gums?
If your teeth and gums are relatively healthy, then you are probably a good candidate for Invisalign. If you do not have much bone loss in your jaw and your teeth and gums are healthy, your teeth will be better able to hold in place once they’ve shifted to a more aligned position.
Invisalign Cannot Help With an Overbite or Under-Bite
On the other hand, if you need help realigning your jaw to correct an overbite or under-bite, then you may not be a candidate for Invisalign. Clear braces cannot correct a misalignment with your jaw. However, they can correct crooked, gapped, or overcrowded teeth. So, if any of these issues are giving you trouble, you could benefit from using clear aligners in Corpus Christi.
